The Animal

Funny man Rob Schneider stars in the hilarious comedy – ‘The Animal’ – as Marvin Mage, a hapless loser. Marvin is a timid and unfortunate simpleton whose persistent ambitions of turning into a policeman are scotched by his Lilliputian shortness. But when Marvin is seriously wounded in an auto crash, half-crazed medicine man Dr. Wilder takes several animal body organs to preserve his life, imbibing in Marvin the endurance and physical powers of the animal donors.

Marvin promptly earns a reputation as a super cop, but the unfortunate part is that he also inherits a number of awkward natural responses and animal impulses that come along with his new abilities — a grave menace to his blossoming relationship with new girlfriend Rianna.

Primeval

Based on true events, ‘Primeval’ is about an American news team that journeys to one of the most inaccessible regions on the planet hoping to hunt down a barbarous murderer believed to have taken over hundreds of lives.

This frightfully alarming and terrifying horror-thriller starring Dominic Purcell and Orlando Jones, occurs in the tiny (actual) African country of Burundi where, supposedly, the biggest and meanest African crocodile in the world lives. As the fearless news crew gingerly makes their way toward the source of the croc, they soon find that the savagery brought down on man by man itself is hardly a comparison to the persistent brutality of Mother Nature’s most irrepressible marauder.

Orlando Jones as Steven Johnson adds a much-needed gentle hint of wit to an otherwise sombre flick. Brooke Langton as Aviva Masters delivers a welcome touch of appeal and allure to a debauched and shadowy African setting.

National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets

In this thrill-filled follow-up, to the 2004 smash hit, Nicolas Cage reiterates his part as artefact hunter and archaeologist Ben Franklin Gates.

In this expedition, Gates finds out of his own family’s involvement in the murder of Abraham Lincoln. It is up to Gates to unearth an evasive journal, not only to absolve his family’s reputation but to reveal and relate a number of sub-plots and mysteries, concealed within the book, that point out to an extensive, worldwide intriguing plot.

Ed Harris aptly depicts the nefarious Mitch Wilkinson as the lead villain while the film also stars top notch actors such as Jon Voight, Harvey Keitel, and Helen Mirren as Gates’ mother.

The Fan

Gil Renard (Robert De Niro) is an ardent baseball fan, so ardent he borders on the insane. His focus of attention is Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes) and watches the player’s move like a crazed stalker. The turn in the plot takes place when Bobby signs up a huge contract with the San Francisco Giants; wherein from there on everything goes downhill. His field play deteriorates with each play and his batting average goes way below expected. To add to his woes his chief team rival is murdered mysteriously and discovers that Gil starts to interfere himself in every aspect of his life.

Gil believes he is doing Bobby a favor by dictating his moves but when the psychopathic nature of Gil crosses into Bobby’s family the situation gets scary.
De Niro is obviously to watch out for, while Snipes evokes quite and controlled fury as a man torn between career and family. Comic timing and added support comes in from John Leguizamo as an agent for ballplayers, and Ellen Barkin as a sports media commentator.

‘The Fan’, Tonight on Powerplay, After The 9 PM Movie at 11:25pm.
