Jim Carrey starrer comedy is an update of the 1977 comedy, ‘Fun with Dick and Jane’. The new version of the film with the same title shows the comedic side of those who have been devastated by events like failure of the mega giant companies like Enron. They even go as far as thanking those in charge of scandals like Enron in the end credits.
The film is set around Dick (Jim Carrey), who is riding up the corporate ladder fast and Jane (Tea Leoni), who is a personal assistant to a complete jerk. When Dick finally gets his awaited promotion, Jane is finally able to quit her job spend more time with their son who is speaking more Spanish than English, thanks to his nanny. Unfortunately it turns out that Dick’s promotion was just a ploy to make him a scapegoat as Alec Baldwin (CEO) runs the company into quick bankruptcy. With their big jobs gone, Dick and Jane must find new ways to pay the bills as creditors threaten to take everything away from them and even repossess their lawn.
After the initial struggle, it is fun to see how Dick and Jane are able to coy the CEO and form a fund to pay all the company employees. The writing team for the movie consisted of some of the minds behind other outlandish comedies such as ‘The 40-Year Old Virgin’ and ‘Strangers with Candy’ and with Jim Carrey this certainly is a delight for those who love over the top comedies.
