Leatherheads

Directed by George Clooney, Leatherheads is a movie about an enterprising football player who convinces America’s ace college football hero to play from his team’s end and keep the league from sinking.

A mixture of sports and romantic comedy, Clooney stars as Dodge, a brash and handsome gridiron giant who is equally comfortable leading his team in a barroom brawl or charging for a touchdown in a packed stadium. However, when Dodge’s team loses their sponsor, their league seems to be falling down the hill.

Clooney, with hopes to save his team, decides to convince Carter, an ace football player to join their team. Carter single-handedly forced the surrender of multiple German soldiers during the World War I. He had the goodwill of being America’s favourite son. His unparalleled speed was one of his biggest asset as an athlete.

The Longest Yard

A humorous makeover of one of the best – recollected sports movies of the 1970s, The Longest Yard.

 

Those were the days when Paul Crewe was a revered football superstar. However, they say, the shinning glory eventually fades or better say, a spotlight is a momentary thing! Alcohol is good but too much will always take a toll.

A messy drunken driving incident lands Paul in the jail. Here, he finds out that he was specifically requested by Warden Hazen, a duplicitous official at the prison. Hazen was well aware of Paul’s athletic skills and thus, Paul was assigned the task of assembling a team of convicts. A team which would compete with the grumpy, sadistic guards of the prison.  With support and help from fellow convicts, Paul prepares a promising team while the guards are least aware of who stands against them.

 

How about taking inspiration from them and forming a team to have a face-off with ‘bosses’ at work? Watch the prison inmates form a football team to challenge the prison guards on Saturday @ 7 pm.

 

                         

DISTURBING BEHAVIOR

Teenaged Allen Clark gives up his life, post which his family decides to move from the hustle-bustle of Chicago to a quite island, Cradle Bay. The parents sought a peaceful life for Allen’s siblings Steve and Lindsay.

However, when the kids join school, the ‘quiet’ doesn’t seem to be so peaceful. Steve is introduced to a local outcast Gavin Strick and Rachel Wagner, friend of Gavin. Steve is exposed to the different tribes of the school, the punks, the nerds and so on. Gavin defends the weird theory that a sinister force is behind the behavioral changes of the annoyingly perfect ‘Blue Ribbons’ group. Blue Ribbons is a group of ‘perfect’ students who wear identical jackets and gather in the Yogurt Shoppe.

Steve grows suspicious when Gavin admits to have witnessed the killing of their schoolmate Mary by the ‘perfect’ group.

Gone In Sixty Seconds

Memphis is not just an ordinary car thief but a master car thief. He can steal any car that crosses his path. Swift, isn’t it?

After all the wealth and glory that he has earned in his life of crime, well aware that a future in theft is short lived and tentative, he takes a detour. He wants to get out of the business of robbery and theft and start a clean life. However, as they say, the past always haunts. His retirement plans are interrupted and he retreats to his past when his younger brother gets into trouble with a dangerous crime head.

To save his brother, the only option he has is to get into a profitable deal of stealing 50 exotic cars in one night and have them on a container ship by 8:00 AM in the morning.

Seeing no way out, he joins hand with other car thieves and Sway. At the same time, another gang from the rival group is attempting the same stunt while the detectives are on a mission to not let their mission get accomplished.

Dangerous Minds

Anne Johnson, a veteran of the Marine Corps with a degree in education is all set to start her new profession in the inner-city school of California. Her quest is not merely teaching the lessons of the syllabi but to teach the lessons of life to her class.

As the principal of the class puts in, the students are nothing less than ‘rejects from hell’. Kids with unstable social life and with a complete lack of interest in education. Some of her students are the African – American and Latino who scoff at her while some are bright students who have lost their hope. Raul is the brightest student, shy of swanking his intellectual brains and Emilio is a macho bully.

She adapts to an innovative method of teaching the class with her acquired Karate skills at the Marines, a little bit of bribery (read candy bars) and playing Bob Dylan in the class. Her efforts help her students grow keen on learning and literature.

Now, that’s a perfect teacher that we would love. Agree?

‘S.W.A.T.’

An imprisoned drug kingpin offers a huge cash reward to anyone that can break him out of police custody and only the LAPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics team can prevent it.

S.W.A.T. officers Jim Street and Brian Gamble were sent in to prevent an extremely violent bank robbery. Although they thwarted the robbery, a hostage was shot in the process which lead to their elimination from S.W.A.T. Street was suspended and Gamble was fired from the team.

A couple of months later, a veteran S.W.A.T. officer, Hondo, is asked to form a S.W.A.T. team for his own division. He chooses some S.W.A.T. officers and three novices. After they clear the S.W.A.T. training, they’re alerted that a French crime master Montell is trying to escape the prison. Montell has promised $100 million to anyone who helps his escape. Do you think the S.W.A.T. team will be able to foil this escape of Montell?
